There lived a rich man by name Simeon who lived in a big white mansion. He had a gardener, Rangaraj, who was given a hut in the corner of the garden. Opposite the house was a big ground where a Gospel campaign was going on. Simeon attended the same and was c o n v e r t e d . Rangaraj could clearly hear the messages from his hut and he too was converted. Though Simeon became a good Christian his outlook on life wasn’t much changed but Rangaraj’s whole attitude towards life changed.
Simeon’s business brought in lot of money. He wanted to build four mansions for his four children. He set apart a big amount for his daughter’s marriage and settlement. But he was regular in giving 1/10th of his income to the Church and Missions. Rangarj sent his two children to the Government School. Every paise he could spare went to missionary work. He or his wife never bought any jewels or silk. They cut down all expenses to save money for missionary work and lived frugally.
One day Simeon was taking Rangaraj to his newly built house to do some gardening. The car met with an accident and both of them died. Both went to heaven. Multitudes of angels received them at heaven’s gate. Then a senior angel took them to their houses. The streets were of gold. They came to a huge big white mansion with precious stones studded all over with a sprawling garden. Simeon thought, “This must be mine, I love it.” The angel looked at Rangaraj and said, “Go in and take possession. This is your house.” Rangaraj nearly fainted. Simeon thought, “Wow! If my gardener’s house is like a palace, how will mine be?” As Rangaraj walked into his mansion the angel took Simeon to a corner of the garden where there was a hut. “This is yours brother, go in and settle down,” said the angel.
The shocked Simeon said, “How can it be?” The angel had the accounts book brought and showed him what percentage of his income he had sent to heaven and what percentage Rangaraj had sent. Simeon shut his mouth and went into his hut as he had sent 10% of his income to heaven and Rangaraj 70% of his income! The angel said, “It is not how much you give but how much you sacrifice that matters.”
Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and
steal.”
