A rooster flew across the compound wall into a pastor’s compound and was picking grains. The pastor chased it, caught it and put it under a basket. He told his wife, “Look here, I have caught this rooster of our neighbour. Make chicken curry for lunch.”
She agreed. That being Sunday they both went to church. The pastor preached a powerful sermon on: “Covet not your neighbour’s things.” The wife was deeply convicted. When they came home, the pastor’s wife freed the rooster.
The salivating pastor sat down for lunch. He was served only vegetable curry. “Where is the chicken curry?” he demanded. The wife meekly replied, “I was so convicted by your sermon that I let out the rooster.” The pastor angrily shouted, “My sermon was not for you and me; it was for the congregation.”
Our life must match our words.
