Vanitha was a very good child, very helpful to her mother. One day she went to the supermarket with her mother. There she saw a beautiful Pearl Necklace. She begged her mother to buy it for her. Her mother checked the price. It was Rs.10.
Her mother said, “OK. I’ll give you ten errands. You do them for me and I’ll buy you the necklace.” So Vanitha started running around helping her mother and got the necklace she wanted. She loved the necklace so much that she wore it throughout the day
except while taking bath. Night she’d keep it under her pillow.
Every day her daddy would tell her a bedtime story and tuck her in bed. One day he asked Vanitha, “Vanitha dear, do you love me?” “Yes, Daddy,” replied Vanitha. “Then give me the Pearl Necklace,” he said. Vanitha couldn’t bear to part with the necklace.
“Oh, Dad, please don’t ask me to give you the necklace, please,” she pleaded. “No problem,” said her daddy and went away.
This repeated for three days. Vanitha’s heart was broken. “I love my daddy so much. Why can’t I give the necklace?” So she decided to give the necklace. That day when daddy asked,
with a heavy heart she put her hand under the pillow, fished out the necklace and placed it in daddy’s hands.
Daddy smiled and kissed her and said, “Now I know you really love me. Now I have a gift for you.” He opened his other hand and what do you think it was? It was a genuine pearl necklace, that shone in all its beauty!
Many times we hold back from God what He wants us to give up and lose precious blessings. When we give up what He wants us to give up, He blesses us with true joy and peace.
