Muniamma worked in many houses and educated her children with great difficulty. One day her son was sick and she needed Rs.100 to buy him medicines. She went to her mistress’ house and requested for the money. The mistress was very rude. She said:
“I can’t give you money like that. Go, go, wash the vessels, wash the clothes and sweep the house.”
Muniamma washed the vessels and took the clothes for washing. As she routinely did, she put her hand inside the pockets to check. There was a 500 Rupee note in one pocket. She brought it to her mistress. Her mistress was ashamed of her rudeness. She gave Rs.200 to Muniamma. But Muniamma said 100 Rs was enough and took only 100 with thanks.
