There was once a wise old tree. It was tall and big, with many branches. Birds came and sat on its branches and ate its fruit. Squirrels ran over the branches chasing one another. Cattle and people rested in its dense cool shade. Nuts used to fall down from the tree and litter the ground.
One day a nut on the ground looked up at the grand and majestic tree and said, “I am so jealous of you. You are a powerful tree. I am just a nut. I wish I am like you, useful to others.”
The tree replied, “Don’t say you are just a nut. You are God’s creation. You must never be in a hurry, because God is never in a hurry. He takes His own time to develop you. You must be patient and cooperative.”
Just then a squirrel carried off the nut. Another squirrel gave chase. So the nut fell off from the squirrel’s mouth into a river. It was carried off by the swollen river a long, long distance. The nut was afraid but told himself, “I must be patient; I must be cooperative.”
At last it settled down in soil. It slept for some days and woke up to find a shoot coming off its head. “That’s all?” said the nut, “Look at the grand old tree. I am just a shoot. Be patient, little nut. Be cooperative.” It drank water. It became a plant, a small tree and after many years became a grand old wise tree on whose branches birds and squirrels played. People rested in its shade. Today he is counselling many nuts to be patient and cooperative.
Life is a slow process. You must never be in a hurry to grow up or be jealous of others. Every day is an opportunity to develop yourself. Play, study, learn a job, develop yourself. You’ll one day be a model and teacher to others. You will never be a nut all your life.
