Golden Girl
Reading: Psalm 45:9-14
“All glorious is the princess within; her gown is interwoven with gold” (Psa 45:13)
In this Psalm we read about the Golden Girl as the bride of Christ (v9) and the daughter of God (v13). This is a song of love as we see in its superscription. See how God loves us, decorating us with the gold of Ophir. He has set us in His right hand. We cannot be elevated any further. Left hand side is of lesser status. He has given us the best! Gold of Ophir is the best. She is perfect inside and out (v13). This is our standing before God. But what is our state? Are we really gold?
Our gold has lost its lustre, the fine gold become dull. Once worth our weight in gold, we are now considered as clay (Lam 4:1,2). Why? Because of our many sins (Lam 1:5). We have fallen in our state.
God loves pure gold (Ex 25:24). He will accept nothing but the gold of Ophir. He is not happy with our 99%. On the holy crown of pure gold was written HOLY TO THE LORD (Ex 39:30). But we have made a golden calf for us (Ex 32:4). We have coveted gold like Achan (Josh 7:21). We have made a golden ephod like Gideon and it has become our object of worship (Judg 8:27). God gave us the gold; but we made an idol out of it (Ezek 16:13; Hos 2:8; 8:4).
We have hoarded wealth in the last days. That gold has become corroded (Js 5:3). Like Balaam we said even if we had all the gold in the palace we could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the Lord (Num 22:18). Yet we fell for it. Remember, when Israel backslided, all their gold was carried away by their enemies. Let us not put our trust in gold (Job 31:24). It cannot save us in the day of God’s wrath (Zeph 1:18).
The princess is all glorious within (Psa 45:13). God wants our insides — all our heart, all our soul, all our mind! (Mt 22:37). He wants us to first clean the inside (Mt 23:25,26; Lk 11:39-41). Misplaced values misguide us. Let us, like the three boys, refuse to worship the golden idol (Dan 3:1). Beware of becoming the counterfeit golden girl (Rev 17:4). It is the greedy spirit of Babylon. Its end is destruction (Rev 18:16).
We have lost the right hand status. Can it be restored? We will see tomorrow.
