Your life is passing you by!
Reading: Song of Solomon 7:10-13
“When God gives someone wealth and possessions,
and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy
in their toil — this is a gift of God” (Eccl 5:19)
God has given us a life. We must live this life to the best. It is a choice and we must choose to celebrate and cherish life. But sadly many are killing themselves in an attempt to live. They work long hours and earn fat salaries. What for? To come home and see their children asleep. Don’t forget that a family is waiting for you. What is the use of working yourself to death if you don’t live to enjoy it? Children grow up and we grow old. What we do not enjoy today cannot be enjoyed tomorrow. So enjoy your children. Watch them play in the puddle and laugh with them. It is not a waste of time; it is the joy of life.
Enjoy your husband like the Shulamite in the Song of Solomon. Even if you have finished eating do not get up and go to wash the dishes. Just sit with him as he eats and be talking, listening. Enjoy going out with him and being in bed. Enjoy your family. Cooking and keeping your house clean should not be considered a burden. Plan your cooking and give happy surprises to your family. If relatives are visiting, let not your heart sink. Do not overdo and become tired but cook what you can to please their palate. May be you can cook most of the dishes the previous day and load your fridge so that you can have a relaxed time with relatives.
God is one who “richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment” (1 Tim 6:17). Jesus was a happy person attending weddings and dinners. Enjoy a holiday with your family now and then. Emails, social networking, web browsing and even the mobile can become addictive and eat into your life. There is so much good in this world to enjoy. Don’t let your life pass you by.
“Do not be over-righteous, neither be over-wise — why destroy yourself? ... It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes” (Eccl 7:16-18). Strike a balance. You need to put in hours of work, you need to help others, you need time to rest, you need time to serve God and you need time to enjoy life. Be a balanced Christian.
We are not individuals. Man is a social being. We have family and friends. We cannot afford to be selfish. So enjoy life and have fun so that others around you can be happy. Don’t put off living until you are dead!
