Hello!
Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
“I have the right to do anything,” you say —
but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything —
but I will not be mastered by anything” (1 Cor 6:12)
The world is moving forward fast and this generation is enjoying the latest technology. In a way it is good but in many ways it is not. Take for example the mobilephone. Shops are springing up and advertisements hook the young and old. People are lured to buy the latest even though the old one is practically useful. The prohibitive cost is no deterrent. Money that could be usefully invested elsewhere is sucked into this abyss. Mobilephone is good in the sense it has made life convenient for us. But are we under its power? This is a good question to ask ourselves. Let us have some rules so that the mobile usage does not affect us or others.
If your mobile is in good working condition do not discard it for a more advanced version unless you have a technical reason. Discipline yourself to be satisfied with it. We are accountable to God for every rupee we spend. Ensure your safety. Avoid selfies in dangerous places. Talking on the mobile while crossing roads and driving are to be certainly avoided, not only for your sake, for the sake of others too. Never use your mobile while it is plugged to charge.
Never use it for wrong purposes. It stains your conscience. It makes you to guard your instrument jealously, instead of leaving it in common places. Erasing calls, SMSes or other details is not privacy; it is secrecy, which is certainly unhealthy. Talking to the wrong person as if to the right person is cheating. Cheating and lying have become plagues after the advent of the mobile. Avoid late night conversations that disturb your sleep. Remember that children are watching and learning from you.
Facebook is good in many ways but remember, you are exposing yourself and divulging information to strangers that may be misused to your own disadvantage. You are also tempted to go through unwanted matter which consumes your precious time. It is better to avoid developing friendship with strangers through facebook.
Discipline yourself to give priority to the one you are talking to in person. If you get a call, ignore it. If it is an important call, tell them you’ll call them later and close. It is an insult to your guest if in their presence you start talking to someone who is not there.
Let the mobile be your servant, not your master.
