Feed My lambs!
Reading: John 21:15-17
“A teacher of little children” (Rom 2:20)
Jewish children had systematic teaching of the Scriptures as the above text states. Timothy proves to us that learning the Scriptures from infancy leads a child to salvation (2 Tim 3:15). David, though a king, was teaching children (Psa 34:11). It is a very good, easy and fruitful ministry for women. I was a Sunday School teacher in our Church. So many non-Christian children found Christ. It has become my habit to start a Sunday School when I go to some new place.
Let me share with you my latest venture. It was in 2014 that we started visiting a rural area every Sunday. Smitten by the idols and turmeric under every tree, we started walking through the village befriending the people.
One day a sad man told me that he would come to Church and give offering if only God gave him a child. The next week his wife told us the full story. They were without a child for eighteen years. Because of the mockery of relatives and neighbours they contemplated suicide; but deciding against it they shifted from their hometown and settled down here. So we started visiting his house regularly, teaching songs and stories to the three kids and two adults who gathered there. Neighbours started to join and the number became 25. After six months the lady became pregnant. Now they have two boys. We visited all the houses in that small hamlet and shared the Good News. We had Christmas Programme. For the second Christmas Programme, opposition arose and we were asked not to visit the village again.
We were downhearted. On the other side of the road was another settlement with only two houses. We just visited a house and knocked at the door. It so happened that it was an evangelical Christian family. They welcomed us and allowed us to have our ministry there. 35-40 come regularly and we do house visiting in another village. Notable is that we had taught the previous village from Genesis to Revelation for two years. We had sown the seeds.
I was burdened to share this to encourage everyone of you who reads this to start a Sunday Class in your house or nearby village or slum. Don’t simply say, “These are hard days. We cannot do any ministry.” Read Matthew 28:18-20 and the Book of Acts and be stengthened. Have faith and you will witness miracles.
