“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.
A man reaps what he sows” (Gal 6:7)
When you pick up one end of the stick, you pick up the other end too. The choice of doing an act is ours, but the consequences of the action is not of us. When we choose to act, we must be prepared to face the consequences. If we choose the wrong act we will feel sorry for what we did, so it is imperative that we pick up the right stick.
Many people are mocking God today. They are picking up wrong sticks and expecting God to reward them. They are going to be bitterly disappointed on that Day. They have deceived themselves by speaking lies to their own self. You are safe if you learn to speak the truth to yourself. You cannot escape the eternal law of reaping and sowing.
When I was a young girl an evangelist used to shout something which still rings in my ears: “What you sow that you reap — bags and bags, cartloads of it.” Do you understand? When we sow a handful of seeds, we reap a sackful. So also our action. It may be a small act but it brings in bundles and bundles of consequences.
Paul continues his admonition, “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life” (Gal 6:8).
How often we sow to please our vile body and then when we face the consequences, feel sorry for what we had done! We cannot undo the consequences nor cancel it. But we can do one thing to our profit — learn from it. Like a dog that returns to its vomit, we should not be repeating the same mistakes. We must analyse where and how we failed and decide to make the right choice to do the right thing next time. Thus, when satan pushes us in the fire, we can come out as gold.
Sow what is right like the women disciplesof Jesus (Lk 3:2). Never become tired of doing something good. The harvest is sure to come and you’ll reap bountiful. We must never give up our struggles to do good whether in the family or office or ministry. “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them” (Heb 6:10). It may be a small act of kindness; but the reward will be sacks and sacks, cartloads of it!
