Kind-hearted Woman
Reading: Deuteronomy 15:4-11
“A kind-hearted woman gains honour” (Prov 11:16)
God is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. So we are commanded to be merciful just as our Father is merciful (Lk 6:35,36). To understand the kind heart of God read Deuteronomy 15:4-11.
The kind-hearted woman keeps losing her wealth and gaining honour. So a woman has to decide which is important to her — wealth or honour. In Proverbs 31 we read that the woman opens her arm to the poor and extends her hand to the needy (v20). Rebekah was kind to a stranger and ran to fetch water for his camels (Gen 24:19,20). Dorcas was doing good and helping the poor, caring for widows and making dresses for them (Acts 9:36). The widow of Zarephath fed a man of God in faith, though her family was starving (1 Ki 17:15). The great woman of Shunem refreshed the heart of a prophet (2 Ki 4).
Showing hospitality, caring for saints, helping those in trouble and all kinds of good deeds are expected of women (1 Tim 5:10). When the shipwrecked Paul and team were washed ashore in Malta, the islanders showed them unusual kindness (Acts 28:2). Love is kind. Paul admonishes us to be kind and compassionate to one another (1 Cor 13:4; Eph 4:32).
We don’t need to go looking for opportunities to be kind. Opportunities keep coming to us all the time. Within the family, instead of shouting at, correcting, criticizing, beating our children, if we start showing kindness, love, compassion and understanding we will witness miracles. Though you may not receive kindness from your husband you can plan kind words and kind responses. Our extended family deserves our kindness. Be quick to extend a helping hand to your neighbour in trouble even at odd hours. Develop a love bond with your neighbours.
We meet people all the time who need our kindness. We may not be able to generously give money but people need a smile, a word of comfort, a genuine appreciation, a loving hug or a sympathetic clucking of the tongue. Paul boldly says that he could be commended for his kindness (2 Cor 6:6). That’s why he says we should clothe ourselves with kindness (Col 3:12).
Let us not let go off any opportunity to show kindness. May be you have hardened your heart towards someone’s plea. Why not in faith, extend your hand to her? God will be pleased.
