My Calling, My Gifts
Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Romans 12:3-8
“God created ... in the image of God ... female ... and it was very good”
(Gen 1:27-31)
None of God’s creation is bad. Even satan was very good until he spoiled himself. But many women are very unhappy the way God has created them. What we are is God’s gift to us. What we make ourselves is our gift to God. God did not create us in vain. He had a purpose in creating us. He has given us a calling. It is up to us to discover the purpose and calling for which He has created us. Or else we will miss the mark like Miriam (Num 12).
It is obvious that our first calling is to be a woman. If you do not recognize this calling you will be wasting your life. Your mind and body are very different from that of a man. A woman thinks differently from that of a man and her body is soft, not muscular. She must understand her role from the biblical perspective. A woman starts her life as a baby and then grows into the role of a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Study from the Bible how perfectly you can fulfil these roles.
Gifts vary from person to person. You may not find any gift obvious in you, making you worry if God has not given you any gift. Be patient. Keep doing whatever comes to your hand. Just keep observing where you shine best. People may be appreciating something that you do. That could be your gift. “Your natural abilities are God’s suggestions for your life’s work,” says Dr. Clyde Narramore. All the gifts are not mentioned in the Bible like singing and writing. If you shine in something, do that more often.
The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed (Mt 13:31) and who can despise the day of small beginning (Zech 4:10)? You must also remember that God expects you to be faithful in little (Mt 25:21). So develop what you have. I remember the day when I was sixteen when I cried, “Lord, You haven’t given me any gift.” God said, “You talk nicely. Why don’t you talk to people about Me?” I was a painfully shy girl. But thus started the journey of a thousand miles, step by step, step by step. There were discouragements and pitfalls all along the way but I was not sliding back. I was going forward and here I am today.
You have a talent, use it for the Lord!
If you do not use it, you will surely lose it,
You have a talent, use it for the Lord!
