“One who fails to plan, plans to fail,” we say. That is very true. Many of us are grumpy and vague when we get up in the morning because we do not know the plan for the day and therefore fumble where to start. Bible meditation and prayer are disturbed, thinking about what to do next.
The best time to plan our day is the previous night. We should plan the breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner and check if we have all the ingredients the previous evening itself.
We should have at least a rough idea about our tomorrow, and be mentally prepared for it. Writing a diary is helpful where you can note down weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other details so we won’t miss them. I note down such details the previous day itself so I’d be prepared. I also note down when the driving licence and passport are to be renewed, when the dog is to have its injection, when my blood test is due, subscription renewal dates and such things. Martha’s unplanned day frazzled her nerves.
There is no planning where we go finally. So let’s plan while we are here and execute the plans with all our might (Eccl 9:10). Samuel had exact plans for the next day and the day after, regarding Saul’s visit and even had his food ready (1 Sam 9:23,24). If we should not be anxious about tomorrow then we should plan our tomorrow. Jesus was a disciplined Man whose plans for the morrow galvanized Him to action (Lk 13:33). Moses was well prepared to face the next day’s crisis (Ex 17:9). Use your mobile or a pocket notebook to note down a rough schedule and go by it. Early planning saves a calamitous day. A ‘to do’ list should be at hand and as you finish each job keep deleting it off your list.
For major planning, trust in the Holy Spirit and seek counsel (1 Chr 28:12). God puts the plans in our mind and expects us to work it out. “The plans of the diligent lead to profit” (Prov 21:5).
We may alter our plans suitable for the day but we know what we are doing while being flexible. At the end of the day we will rejoice for one more happy day in our life.
“May God give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed” (Psa 20:4).
