I suppose Tabitha was dead for some hours (Acts 9:36-42). What do you think the people’s questions would have been to her? “Where were you when you were out of the body? How was heaven? Whom did you meet there? Did you see Jesus?” I leave the rest of the questions to your imagination. Lazarus was dead for four days. When he was resurrected by Jesus, people would have bombarded him with questions. In the Old Testament too we have similar incidences of resurrection.
Surprisingly in none of the references, the Bible gives any hint about what happened to the dead person when he was out of the body. Why? It is very obvious that God has kept back what is good for us to be ignorant of. When God is silent, when the Bible is silent, let us also be silent about the subject. We don’t need to show unnecessary curiosity about hidden things and open the doors for falsehood to corrupt us. God knows what we need to know, and all that we need to know is plainly written in the Bible that we may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son on God, and that by believing we may have life in His name (Jn 20:31).
“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or apart from the body I do not know — God knows” (2 Cor 12:2). We dare not tread into areas God has sealed off as His domain (1 Sam 6:19). It is presumptuous to pry into the mysteries of God. There is abundant revelation for us in the Bible to satisfy and save us. God has kept back nothing that is necessary for us to know in this life. Let us and our children learn diligently all that is revealed and live out the lessons they teach us. Do not waste your time in unprofitable teaching.
Why would God kill a man of God for trusting a lying prophet? (1 Ki 13:18). It seems unfair that a prophet would trick someone and cause judgment to come upon him. But this incident is a somber reminder: “We are always responsible to carefully evaluate messages supposedly from God, especially when they contradict what God has previously revealed.”
