“And a great multitude of people followed Him, and women also mourned and lamented Him. But Jesus, turning to them, said,
‘Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me,
but weep for yourselves and for your children’ ” (Lk 23:27,28)
Though a multitude followed Jesus, it was the women who wept. They are emotional and they easily shed tears. Jesus did not discourage their weeping but guided them in the right direction. Those who weep for God, who shed holy tears will be blessed. Mary Magdalene was weeping and witnessed not only angels but the Lord Himself (Jn 20:11,12,15). Jesus asked her why she was weeping. Our tears will not go unnoticed. God will surely enquire and answer us. Mary’s weeping was answered and she was comforted.
There is no denying the fact that we are nearing the endtime. We need to shed tears in God’s presence for ourselves and our children that we may be kept pure and be found worthy at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Mt 5:4). Women often find themselves in difficult situations and tend to cry to their parents or husbands or their friends. Hannah was in a strait, being harassed within her own home. But instead of complaining and crying to others she decided to go and pour out her tears to the Lord (1 Sam 1:10). She was not just comforted; she was blessed with children. Her sorrow and shame were wiped away.
Then there is the weeping for souls. “Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at every street corner” (Lam 2:19). “Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. She who continually goes forth weeping, carrying seed for sowing shall doubtless return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with her” (Psa 126:5,6).
Women tend to weep for worldly problems. Istead if we use our weeping in prayer, it would bring great dividends. Esther pleaded with the king for her race (Esth 7:3,4). Her prayer changed the course of history. It was not just Esther’s prayer; the Jews, men and women mourned with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes (4:3). God heard their weeping and answered their prayers. He will do the same for us today.
