“You are the God who sees me” (Gen 16:13)
Hagar was in a lonely desert but God was there seeing her desperate situation, hearing her sighs and talking to her, giving her guidance.
The Lord “saw” that Leah was unloved and He enabled her to conceive (Gen 29:31). The Lord “heard” that she was not loved (v33). He filled her mouth with praises (v35).
The funeral procession had reached the gate of the city and in less than an hour the man would be covered with earth. But Jesus was there at gun-time to tell the wailing widow, “Weep not.” Her son was given back to her alive (Lk 7:11-15).
Sorrow is inseparable from life. There is a weeping heart behind every smiling face. We all have had our heartaches and fear thinking, “I am all alone in this.” Quit worrying. There is One who is seeing you right now; who is hearing your sobs; and, if you care to listen, talking to you.
Hagar saw the One who saw her; she heard Him, and obeyed Him. His guidance was hard to follow. The Angel told her to go back to her mistress who mistreated her. But nevertheless Hagar obeyed.
Most of us refuse to see God in our circumstances. We see the enemy, we look around for those who can help us, but fail to look above. We listen to counsel from friends but fail to give ear to God who is pointing to the right direction we ought to move. It may seem a difficult discipline. But God is teaching us spiritual lessons.
Each tear drop is a valuable diamond. You don’t grow spiritually when all is well. God trains our hands for war. No soldier will say that the training was easy. Soldiers of God’s army are given hands- on training so that they will win the battle.
“The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chr 16:9).
Cheer up. There is a great One in your boat. Though He may appear to be sleeping, your lifeboat will never capsize.
