Reading: Song of Solomon 3:1-4
“Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband?” (Gen 30:15)
Countless women have lost their husbands to ‘man-stealers’ like Herodias (Mt 14:3), and weeping their heart out. They find no way out of the sticky situation.
What do you do when you find your husband sliding towards another woman? Don’t panic, be sensible. First you pray and be sure that a relationship is developing between the two. You don’t need to suspect every friendly relationship. Keep observing. If it is confirmed, then talk to your husband first. If he repents, forgive him and develop a loving relationship. Keep the other woman away till you develop confidence in her, even though your husband may insist that you invite her home. If your husband is adamant, then try putting some sense into the other woman’s head. Tell her how your family is hurting. Be polite and loving. If she is a sensitive woman and God-fearing, she will immediately withdraw herself. Your husband may get angry with you but you have to face it. He may cool down once his emotion for the other woman wanes off.
If both are not willing to break off their relationship, you may get the help of your parents and in-laws. Keeping the lid over the problem and praying rarely helps. Your husband may say that it is shame for you to talk about your own husband negatively to others. He may say an Indian wife will be submissive even though the husband may have another woman; it is God’s will for her to suffer in silence. He may also say that most men are like that and that she must learn to accept it. Never fall for any of the tricks. Your husband is yours and your family is your right. You must fight for your right as long and as hard as you can.
If your parents and in-laws are unable to help, then tell your pastor and his wife. Let them talk to you both. You can also go for Christian Counseling. All the while try to maintain a cordial relationship with your husband. If he agrees to break up the extra- marital relationship, then forgive. You need to be cautious, praying and offering him adequate support and protection. There are many challenges to forgiveness, the most difficult being marital infidelity. The offended partner must make a choice to forgive and live with a memory that cannot be easily pushed aside.
