“Love never fails” (1 Cor 13:8)
As our skin starts shrinking and hair greys, we often wish we learnt certain things earlier so that life would have been better. I wish to tell the younger generation some of the things we learn too late.
Lust wanes; love endures. When hormones are galloping in our bloodstream like wild horses we tend to fall in lust with every Tom, Dick or Harry who has a tender look, coquettish smile, gentle touch or a sympathetic word for us. In this bargain some go all the way to sin and end up guilty and damaged. Shame covers them and they look back on a trail of damage they have left behind by way of guilt and broken family.
It is good for you to remember that lust has no future whereas love never dies. Love grows stronger and stronger till the end of your life. Trials make it grow and glow. It makes life beautiful and wonderful. Lust eats away your life like a worm eating and making the apple obnoxious. The more lustful excursions you have, the more damage you do to your true love.
Love endures. Even though you may be in love, still, as long as you start living together, you are total strangers. You have seen only the good side of your man. After marriage you see the bad side also. You need to put up with a lot and sacrifice a lot. A lot of adjustment will be necessary. Your bad side will also show up and that will irritate your husband.
The trick is in not giving up. If you truly love your man you will stick on and go on and grow on. The love flame may appear to flicker and die out. But keep on stoking it, blowing it, kindling it. Never let it die. Learn how to talk, how to cook and how to please him. How did Elizabeth and Zechariah live together for so many years? You think they had no misunderstanding? They too had a problem in life. But they decided to grow up together. That’s how their life culminated in a climax.
Life is not what you think it is during your courtship days or honeymoon. It is a challenge. Face the challenge and come out with flying colours!
