Reading: Genesis 38:6-26
“The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed” (Psa 103:6)
Tamar’s husband died without giving her a child. As was the custom those days, her father-in-law should have given her his another son in marriage which he didn’t. So she tricked her father- in-law and became pregnant by him. Tamar was right in demanding a heir to her dead husband to perpetuate his memory but the impetous route she took to have her way was definitely wrong (Gen 38:6-26).
As Tamar was treated unfairly, the world treats us like trash in many ways. But that does not give us the licence to do what we please to get what we want. It is better to suffer injustice than get justice the wrong way. Ruth was not in a hurry to have her physical and emotional needs met. She waited patiently and went by the guidance of godly elders. How glorious was her end!
We may be treated unjustly. But God doesn’t. He comes for us. Many girls sue their parents to get their rightful property. Instead if you trust God, He will bless you in the way you never expected. God never adds hasstles to His blessings but the burdensome blessings that we fight for come with sorrows. Blessed are the losers, for they shall gain!
This does not mean you should be passive about your losses. You have heard of Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah, who were losing their father’s property to their uncles. They went to Moses and had the matter settled and got what rightfully belonged to them. Try all the right means possible and then accept God’s will (Num 26:33; 27:1; 36:11; Josh 17:3).
Never lose your Christian virtues in times of mistreatment. When others lose their Christian virtues, we are tempted to lose ours by following them into the gutter. So be cautious; God will never let you down. Always remember that this world is not our own. We are not going to live here forever. Even if you fight for your right and get it, you are not going to take it with you to heaven. Do what is right and leave the outcome in God’s hand.
