“Flee sexual immorality” (1 Cor 6:19)
“... immoral woman ... seductress who flatters with her words, who forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God” (Prov 2:16,17). Women tend to forget that on the altar before God, they promised that they would not gaze at another man’s face but honour their husbands with their body. Sex is what makes you one flesh with your husband. When you sleep with another, you become one flesh with another man and the oneness between you and your husband is shattered (Gen 2:24; 1 Cor 6:16).
When the excitement of sex wears out and life settles down to a dull routine after marriage, there comes a man with a seductive smile and tells you how smart you are. So starts a minor fling. Unless checked there, it can snowball into a serious relationship.
There are four types of women: (1) Those who shy away from men, (2) Those who freely talk to men but keep a distance, (3) Those who are free and yield when tempted but withdraw quickly when they sense that his wife or her own husband is angry, (4) Those who lust and flirt and lead men astray like Mrs. Hosea (Hos 3:1). To whichever category one may belong to, there is hope. Always remember that you should never develop a personal relationship with a man bypassing his wife. You should not forget that even servants of God are men with passions as any other.
It is possible that you are disappointed with your husband. You may have 101 hurts; but you have no right to use another’s husband to heal your wounds. Never get between a husband and his wife, even emotionally. A woman is more reproached for adultery than a man. A woman was thrown before Jesus for adultery; but nobody knows why the man was let off the hook.
There is no sin that cannot be forgiven except unbelief. So come to God and be cleansed (Prov 2:12,13). If you are unmarried or widowed, consider marriage (1 Tim 5:14). If you are married, concentrate on developing a close relationship with your husband.
“When we are tempted to think it is hard to deny ourselves, and to crucify fleshly lusts, we ought to consider how much harder it will be to be forever in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone,” says Bible expositor Matthew Henry.
