“Oh, I have fallen in love with Justin Bieber. I dream of him all the time,” says a twelve year old girl. Who is this man? He is some singer in some far off land with no way of meeting this girl, leave alone marrying her. This man could also be a married neighbour or teacher or anyone for that matter. Teenagers have trouble understanding their emotions because everything is happening to them for the first time. If the man comes to know her feelings for him and starts playing with her emotions, she is hooked desperately. Many young girls have damaged their lives by believing their crushes.
What can you do when you are crushed by a crush? The first to do is to keep yourself busy. After study hours you must play outdoor games till you are tired and then have a shower. You must fall asleep before your head touches your pillow. Besides, help at home and learn cooking, sewing and art. These will minimize your daydreaming. Secondly, never share your fantacies with anyone. If you share your thoughts with bad friends, they will misguide you. Most importantly you should never expose your feelings to the one on whom you have the crush, lest he takes advantage of you. Amnon shared his crush for Tamar with an evil buddy, which resulted in his being murdered (2 Sam 13). Girls have been murdered, suffered acid attacks and the like because of misguided youth. So keep yourself at a distance from the opposite sex. Thirdly, hold on to God. This period of time in life is very hard to sail through. There is one person to whom you can pour out your heart, that is our great God. He never looks down upon you because it is He who gave you these sexual emotions. So He undestands. His Son Jesus Christ went through all this and so He knows. So boldly express your feelings to Him verbatim and ask for His guidance and protection. He will hold your hand and guide you safely through life.
Do not worry, or get scared about whatever is happening to you. You are maturing into an adult and all these beautiful changes make you a lady. All go through these stages, not just you. So cross over this lovely period unsullied and allow your hormones to guide you to your life partner in God’s way.
