“Serve wholeheartedly,
as if you were serving the Lord, not people” (Eph 6:7)
1. I decide to start the day with prayer. I realize I am dealing with precious lives and need God’s wisdom, which He alone can give, not my textbooks. I do not know what emergencies I will face in the day and trust in God for quick-wittedness (Neh 6:9).
2. I decide to have the Word of God as my guide for life and service. I shall not turn to the left or right from it. I will saturate myself with God’s Word. I’ll keep a Bible in the ward (Psa 119:105).
3. I decide that Holiness unto the Lord shall be my watchword and song. I will not hesitate to speak the truth to my superiors or patients. I will be known for my honesty like Shiphrah and Puah (Ex 1:15). I will not steal things from the hospital (Eph 4:28).
4. I decide to be above reproach. No one will be able to find fault with my work. If I fail, I will accept my failure and improve in my work. I will not do my personal work during duty hours (Col 3:23).
5. I decide to brush up my knowledge often. I will learn to do things the right way. I will keep abreast of the latest developments. I will keenly observe doctors and my seniors do procedures and learn (Acts 8:28).
6. I decide to be respectful to my superiors and obedient with sincerity of heart. I will take their corrections in the right spirit though they may sound rude. I will not misbehave behind their back or talk ill of them (Eph 6:5,6).
7. I decide to be kind to those under me. I will gently correct them and teach them patiently without getting angry. I will be a model to them every way. Love and kindness will emanate from me and not an attitude of superiority (1 Tim 4:12).
8. I decide to show utmost care to the patients under my care. I will carefully follow the instruction in the chart and earn the trust of my patients. I will be kind and loving to them (2 Ki 11:2,3).
9. I decide to speak about Christ to my patients and relatives. I will pray for my patients. I will assure them of my prayers. I will not let my ministry interfere with my duty (2 Tim 4:2).
10. I decide not to neglect my family. Even though nursing is strenuous work, I will try to be pleasant, loving and caring to my family. I will spend time with my husband and children. I will not leave my family and go elsewhere to earn more (Acts 16:14,15).
