Reading: 1 Samuel 13:1-19
“Flee sexual immorality” (1 Cor 6:18)
It is time for young girls to sit up and ponder the question of Premarital Sex (PMS). It is violating a basic moral and ethical code, that sexual expression is the privilege of the married. Sex is God’s idea. He created man as male and female and made them attractive to each other, for pleasure and procreation. Since it was created by God, sex cannot be sin. But God has attached responsibility to it.
Just because conception can be avoided PMS does not become a cleaner act. If you are relying on family planning measures to avoid pregnancy, you are on very shaky ground. They are not foolproof. They can fail. Neither is abortion a solution. It has its own dangers and can even cost your life. Abortion is murder. You are exposing yourself to sexually transmitted diseases (STD), some of which have no treatment.
One day you will face the hard choice, “If you love me, come to bed with me.” Deflowering innocent virgins like Tamar is a game for some boys (2 Sam 13). It is soul-destroying to a girl to discover that he was simply having fun with her. Remember, virginity once lost in forever lost. Wait till the day of marriage to enjoy sex without guilt. Friends may try to push you into sin. Older girls may offer to carry letters back and forth. Some ladies may offer “jobs” on the other side of the country. Beware!
The Bible labels premarital sex as sin. “Flee sexual immorality” (1 Cor 6:18). Stand for your convictions. Don’t buckle under pressure. God will not allow you to be tempted beyond your ability. Any temptation has an “IN” door and “OUT” door (1 Cor 10:13). Best is to avoid the entrance. But if by chance you find yourself ‘in’ then look for the emergency exit.
By regular reading of the Bible and prayer your mind learns to hate PMS. Have a goal in life. That will keep you from living in a fantasy world.
Decide to say “NO” to PMS. Sooner or later you are going to face the temptation. You may be too hot at that moment to think and decide. So be prepared with a ‘NO’ answer from today. Keep yourself at a respectable distance from married men too. Be courageous. You have the right to refuse sex. Do not be threatened into a sexual relationship. Inform your parents or a trusworthy person. If you have already had PMS, God can forgive you.
The forbidden fruit is not forbidden forever. Why not wait?
