Dead flies
Reading: Proverbs 14:1-9
“As dead flies give perfume a bad smell so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honour” (Eccl 10:1)
Women are often called fools. We are not all fools but we do commit foolish things at times. The beautiful Queen Vashti, instead of being her husband’s crown, ended up in a pig’s snout for lack of discretion (Prov 11:22). Let’s see little follies that can stink our testimony and rot our life.
The first dead fly that makes the air around a woman so fetid that it makes people gag is REJECTING GOD’S WORD.
Jesus taught, “Every one who hears these words of Mine and does not put them to practice is like a foolishwoman who built her house on sand” (Mt 7:26). The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands (Prov 14:1). Job’s wife did not apply God’s Word to her life, hence became a fool (Job 2:10).
Read the Bible word by word and put it to practice. Wordless life is an empty-headed, empty-hearted life. Build your house and your life with the bricks of Bible teachings.
Nebuchandnezzar was God’s chosen vessel. That’s why God took Daniel to his court to interpret his dream. Nebuchandnezzar confessed, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings” (Dan 2:47). But very soon he became a flagrant sinner against God by making an idol of gold for people to worship. God was not ready to give up on him. Again He revealed Himself. Still he hardened his heart and God sent a dream to warn him. Yet his heart was lifted up. What was the result? He became like a beast. When he lifted his eyes to heaven his understanding returned to him. When he acknowledged God, his sanity returned to him (Dan 4:33,34,36).
Samuel told Saul, “You acted foolishly. You have not obeyed the command the Lord your God gave you” (1 Sam 13:13,14). Samuel told him point blank that the Lord does not have as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obedience.
Deuteronomy 28:15,28,29 tells us how rejecting God’s word will give us madness, blindness and confusion of mind. Let God’s word be your delight day and night.
Tomorrow we will see another dead fly.
