Women, Leaven & Heaven
Reading: Acts 8:4-25
The woman said, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.
Could this be the Messiah?” (Jn 4:29)

6. Yeast from one lump can be used to leaven other unleavened dough. Evangelists will spring up from your ministry and reach out, setting up new fires. My mother-in-law laboured in a non-Christian village. Today many missionaries have gone up from that village to various States of India and have raised con-gregations. The yeast laid by Jesus in the heart of the Samaritan woman leavened the village and laid the platform for Philip’s ministry in Samaria later on (Acts 8).
7. Yeast needs warmth to grow. It was the grace shown by Jesus to the Samaritan woman that won her to Him. Chill gospel doesn’t work. All the Churches of the Gentiles gave thanks to Priscilla for the love and warmth she showed to them (Rom 16:3,5). We must not push religion down the throats of people rather woo them with our love and grace. Even if you hand over a Gospel tract, do it with a smile. Be gentle to opposers.
8. The yeast is in your hand. We just put in our hand in the dough and knead it and the yeast in our hand does the job. We should invest what we have. It may be one talent. We don’t need to be waiting for big opportunities. Start with what you have. Be faithful in small things. When Deborah was faithfully judging Israel, God called her for a greater job — to lead the war!
9. It is impossible to un-yeast. Once you put in the yeast it is there to stay, it is there to multiply, unstoppable. You may have to discontinue a ministry due to opposition or various other reasons. But be sure, what you have sown is sure to grow and multiply by the millions.
10. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, Sadducees and Herod. When we make disciples teaching them, we must take care to teach them what the Bible teaches. False teachers abound. So be careful to ground your converts in the right teaching so that they will recognize false teaching and will not be tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine (Mt 16:6-12; Mk 8:15).
