Reading: Mt 5:13-16
“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds
and glorify God on the day He visits us” (1 Pet 2:12)
I was leaving for Salem and entered the Katpadi Railway Station to catch the Kovai Express. I saw a blind man sticking out his stick and knocking people as he walked. I asked him what he wanted and guided him by the hand and seated him in a chair.
I sat beside a lady and asked her if she could read. I said I had a book for her. I gave her a New Testament and explained to her. “I have been coming to this place for the past two years but nobody has ever given me a book. So I will definitely read it,” she said.
When the train arrived an elderly obese lady was struggling to get down. “Amma, hold me,” I said. She said, “Yes please,” and held my shoulder as I supported her. She thanked me and left.
After a few hours in Salem I got back to the station to take the evening train to Katpadi. As I sat there I started talking to the car driver, shared with him the Good News and gave him a New Testament. He took it happily, promising to read.
An old lady with stick was trying to climb the steep steps of the railway station with a heavy sack. I requested the driver to help her. She was so happy.
I boarded the train and sat near an elderly couple. Through the corner of my eye I saw when he switched on his mobile the picture of his god flashed in the screen. My heart sank. I took out my Bible and started reading. Of course I chatted and shared my snacks too. “Let me take a risk,” I told myself and asked him, “Have you ever read the Bible?” He said, “Seeing you, I was just thinking that I have read so many books but not the Bible. I should go home, buy one and start reading. And here you are asking me this question.” That opened the floodgate for me. He and his wife listened and gave their address.
When I reached Katpadi Station a man was getting ready to alight, walking stick in one hand and bag in another. When I got down, I quickly passed on my luggage to my helper who had come to receive me and relieved him of the bag so he could get down easily. He was full of gratitude for me!
Opportunities are everywhere if you keep your eyes open.
