Sunny Woman
Reading: Genesis 1:26,27
“Who is she who appears like the dawn, clear and bright as the sun?”
(SS 6:10 NKJV & NIV)
God and Jesus are compared to the sun by biblical authors so that with our limited comprehensive power we will be able to picture the awesomeness of God. “For the Lord God is a sun” (Psa 84:11). He is called the Sun of Righteousness (Mal 4:2). When Jesus was transfigured His face shone like the sun (Mt 17:2). The Book of Revelation also pictures Jesus as the sun (Rev 1:16).
Surprisingly the Shulamite is compared to the sun by the wise man Solomon (SS 6:10). Truly the woman possesses many qualities of the sun. The sun doesn’t make noise, yet majestically manifests its power quietly. How can a woman be like the sun?
First of all, a woman must always be conscious that she was created in the image of God. She is a little sun, a Samson (meaning little sun). She must be careful to preserve that image. She must be careful to reflect God’s image.
The sunblesses the world with its “precious fruits” (Dt 33:14). She slogs, cleaning the house, cooking and trying to satisfy every need of the family. Plus she now contributes to the whole world through her job. She sends good citizens into the world. The sun makes sweet fruits to ripe and grains to mature and feeds the plants. It supplies us with Vitamin D. Similarly by the fruit of the Spirit, love — our demonstrative love, joy — our happy interaction, peace — our embracing relationship with all, patience — our softness with those who contend with us, our gentleness in dealing with issues, our goodness in every area of life, our faithfulness to family and friends, our meekness when mistreated and self-control in temptations, we must prove to be suns on earth. Evil should depart from our presence (Psa 104:22,23).
Take care of your personal life. “The righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father” (Mt 13:43). It is our righteosness that makes us shine. When you settle down for night sleep, think about the day and search for any anger, lapse of the tongue, gossip, relationship with husband, children, in-laws and others and decide to set them right (Eph 4:26). Sometimes we have contradictory characters — On the stage it is glory but at home it is another story! Align your words and works (Phil 2:14,15).
We will continue the study of the Sunny Woman tomorrow.
