Maduram had two sons. The elder one Booshan was a worldly fellow. Darshan the younger, loved God. Maduram had ten acres of land. Five acres were very fertile and situated on a riverside. He cultivated that land every year and reaped bumper crops. The other five acres were stony and not fit for cultivation.
One day Maduram developed chest pain and was hospitalized. Both the sons took turns to be at his bedside. When Booshan was by his side and Darshan was at home, Madhuram’s chest pain became very severe. He told Booshan, “I am going to die. Divide the fertile land between you two. Take half each. In the same way divide the rocky land also between yourselves equally. Live in peace.” Soon he died. When Darshan came, he was shattered and he cried. “What were papa’s last words?” He asked Booshan. Booshan said, “Papa wanted us to live in peace. He said that I being the elder should take the fertile soil. Since you are younger, he said you can take the
rocky soil and work on it.”
Darshan cried, “Yes papa, I will work on the rocky soil and turn it into good soil and fulfill your wish.” Booshan lived a relaxed life with the income he got from the fertile land. Darshan started digging the land. It was very hard. He toiled and moiled but nothing but stones were found. He noticed that the rocks were shiny. He had never seen such shiny rocks before. So he brought his friend over to see. His friend was amazed. “These are all very costly granite stones. You are fortunate. Set up a factory here and you’ll become the richest man in town,” he said.
Darhan set up a factory to cut the granite and sell it. Money started flowing in. He became very rich and thanked God for His blessing. Booshan felt sorry for cheating his brother.
Do not cheat. Do not worry if others cheat you. Put your trust in God. He will lift you up in due time.
